Overseeding May Be Right If Your Lawn Has Bare Patches or Thin Grass
Overseeding is the process of planting new grass seed on an existing lawn. We use overseeding to renovate lawns that have thin grass, or a lot of bare patches throughout the yard.
We typically use a two step overseeding process because it has shown greater success in growing new seed. Core aeration is the key first step in opening up the ground to relieve compaction, and give new seed a place to grow from. After aeration, the actual overseeding occurs. We broadcast spread grass seed, of an appropriate mix for Ohio, onto the lawn. Seed works its way down into the pockets left from aeration providing a great place to grow seed from.
This is a process that you should expect to take several weeks. Once the new grass seed grows, continuing with a lawn fertilization program and proper watering techniques is important.
